How it works, and what to expect
Every card starts with one photo of your pet. You see the finished card before you pay a cent.
The preview
How does it work?
Pick a card style, upload one photo of your pet, and in about a minute you see them painted into that card. The preview is the actual card front you receive. If you like it, order a box. If you do not, try another take or another style. Nothing is charged until you order.
What kind of photo works best?
Shoot at eye level, in good light, with the face clear and not too far away. Photos taken from above foreshorten the face. A JPEG or PNG straight off your phone is fine. One pet per photo, unless you have picked one of the two-pet cards.
Can I change something in the painting?
Yes. Under the card you can ask for another take, or touch up a detail such as a colour or a marking. There is a limit of a few tries per photo, so the best first step is a good photo.
What about my pet’s size and shape?
The painting keeps your pet’s true proportions. Each style page says which pets suit that scene best, and the gallery has a “Best for” filter, because a scene composed around a large dog will not flatter a small one and the other way round.
How long do you keep my photo?
Only for your working session, which clears after about six hours of inactivity. We keep the artwork you order so we can print it and send you the file. Details are in our privacy page.
The cards
What exactly do I get?
A box of 10, 20 or 30 identical folded 5 × 7 cards on heavy 130 lb (350 gsm) coated card stock, printed on both sides, with an envelope for every card. Printed and shipped in the US.
Blank inside, or with a message?
Blank inside by default, ready for you to write in. For $7.95 an order we print your message inside every card in the box. You see the inside panel as it will print before you pay.
Can I get the file too?
Yes. Add the digital file to any box for $4.95 and you get the print-ready image and a print-at-home PDF alongside the box. On its own, the digital file is $9.95.
Can I order more than one box?
Up to three boxes of the same card in one order. For a different card, come back after checkout and pick another style. Your photo stays with us for the session, so the second card paints straight away.
Do you ship outside the US?
Not yet. Printed cards ship to US addresses only. The digital file is available anywhere.
Ordering
When will my cards arrive?
Cards are printed to order in the US and go out by standard post. Our own test orders took about a week from order to doorstep. We will publish a holiday order-by date once we have shipped enough orders to promise one. Shipping is included in the price. See shipping & returns.
What if something is wrong with my order?
If a box arrives misprinted or damaged, email support@illustratedpet.com with a photo and we will put it right. Because every set is printed to your order we cannot take change-of-mind returns, which is why the preview comes first. Full details on the shipping & returns page.
